What do you get when you mix a graphic design degree with a Crossfit competition, a dead-end job, and a “fu*$# it, I’m in!!!” moment? Nailed it – Sarah Surette Photography!
Just to be clear… I was photographing that Crossfit competition.
Aperol Spritz at the beach > burpees always, but anyyyway.
These days I’m busy chasing golden hour with you all over New England, but once upon a time I was stuck behind a desk designing for a dying newspaper and secretly reading wedding photography blogs. I’d been taking photos forever but wasn’t sure I could make a life out of it, until…
An invitation to shoot an event? And then another… and another? Check.
A perfectly-timed ad for a course by my favorite photography couple? Life changing. (That was my ALL IN moment. Once I threw down my credit card there was no going back.)
And building up my business, awesome client by client, so I could quit that dead-end job? Done and done.
Don’t worry, this isn’t another dramatic “I was born with a camera in my hand and the rest was destiny” story.

The Galapagos, Hawaii, Costa Rica, Aruba, and Bar Harbor will always top the list…but yea I know, someone take me to Europe please and thank you.

guilty pleasure
Buying dresses without an event to attend. Anything with the “Garden Party” pattern by Rifle Paper Co, buying pens and markers in every color of the rainbow and starting a Netflix binge in bed at 10pm. And animal docs.

pastTime
Painting my own nails, hurling myself around at gymnastics and dancing my ass off at concerts. I’ve been to 154 so far, but who’s counting?

In the morning: Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew from Starbucks.
In the evening: Aperol Spritz or Rosé. Cheers!

Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Jonathan Van Ness, Chappell Roan and Beyonce.
Celeb crushes: Currently, Adam Brody, Tom Holland, Harry Styles, Shawn Mendes and every male actor in Bridgerton.

Hearing “we’re so awkward!” at the start of a shoot, then proving my couples completely wrong by the end.
I’m all about the freedom to be your real, joyful, slightly awkward self. (Ok, #1, I LOVE people who are unapologetically themselves… Jonathan Van Ness, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan and Beyonce are most definitely invited to my dream dinner party. And #2, I’m mildly awkward too. We’re in it together.)
And the fun you have living in the moment that we capture is forever. Getting to look back on those major heart-eyes memories for all time? Yes, please.
I’m here to leave you with happy, bright images that you’re totally, “might even show these off to my cat”-level-obsessed with. So basically, I have the best job ever.

So any rain won’t kill the vibe. I like to pretend it’s summer all year round but being prepared is how I roll.

For alllll the detail shots. Creating and capturing beauty in all of the little special moments is my fave. (Although how many velvet ring boxes is too many??? Asking for a friend…)

A thorough timeline and a backup plan.
Hair and makeup running late? Limo’s stuck in Boston traffic? No biggie. Enjoy your day ‘cause I’ve got it all covered.

Probablyyy a snack or two
To keep us from getting hangry. (And if you’re craving french fries too, I know we’ll get along.)

Ok yea the most important stuff. Cameras, duh, lenses, of course, backup cameras, flashes, multiple charged batteries, so so many memory cards and so many other things.
