A Romantic Beach Proposal at The Club at New Seabury: Lauren & Christian
There’s something magical about beachside proposal photography, especially on Cape Cod. Lauren and Christian’s engagement at The Club at New Seabury’s Popponesset Inn in Mashpee, Massachusetts, was just that—absolutely magical.
As a Cape Cod engagement photographer, being part of proposals like this is such an honor. Christian planned every detail to make sure Lauren would be completely surprised, and the result was nothing short of perfection.
A Love Story Born in the Pandemic
Lauren and Christian met on Hinge in June 2020, right in the middle of the pandemic. Fast forward to May 2024, when Christian reached out to me with an exciting plan: he was ready to propose and wanted it captured in the most beautiful way possible. With Lauren’s family being residents of The Club at New Seabury, it was the ideal location. It’s a place close to her heart, and the beach wouldn’t be overcrowded.
Planning the Perfect Proposal
Planning a surprise proposal isn’t easy, but Christian was dedicated to making every detail perfect. Over a few zoom calls, we hashed out the logistics. He wanted everything to go smoothly, and I was there to make sure his vision came to life.
I arrived at The Club at New Seabury on the day of the proposal and met up with Lauren’s brother-in-law, who was a member. He helped me get onto the beach, though not without a little detour first—he found me in the wrong parking lot, thankfully. The cell service was terrible there! We made our way to the right spot though. I’m chronically early and that worked in my favor that day!
On the beach, I set up in a spot with a perfect view of the shoreline, camera in hand and nervous.
I’m sure my nerves were nothing compared to Christian’s in this moment, but why does photographing proposals make my heart beat out of my chest?? I sent Christian my location so he could easily spot me and I could track where they were. From there, it was a waiting game…just sitting there pretending to be enjoying the ocean view.
The Big Moment: Tears, Laughter, and So Much Love
As Christian and Lauren strolled down the beach, my heart was racing. They walked hand-in-hand toward the spot we’d planned. Christian stopped Lauren, faced her and took her hands, and began talking.
That’s when it happened.
Lauren’s expression shifted as she realized what was unfolding. Tears streamed down her face before Christian even dropped to one knee and pulled out the ring. Once he was kneeling she hugged him for a long time. They almost forgot the part where she’s supposed to say yes and he puts the ring on her finger…
I captured every second—the laughter, the hugs, the kisses, and Lauren’s joyful tears. After giving them a few moments to soak it all in, I introduced myself to Lauren. She was absolutely glowing with excitement and happiness.
A Mini Engagement Session on the Beach
Once the initial shock and excitement wore off, we transitioned into a mini engagement session right there on the beach.
After wrapping up the session, I encouraged Lauren and Christian to take a moment to themselves. I suggested grabbing a glass of champagne from the bar to toast their engagement before heading off to a family party waiting to celebrate with them.
Congratulations to Lauren and Christian! Your love story is just beginning, and I can’t wait to see all the amazing moments your future holds.
Tips for Planning Proposal Photography
- Choose a Meaningful Location: Whether it’s a favorite beach, a park where you had your first date, or a family home, pick a spot that holds significance to your relationship.
- Hire a Photographer: Having a professional photographer capture your proposal allows you to relive the moment forever. It’s also a great way to surprise your partner with beautiful photos to share with family and friends.
- Plan the Details: From timing to location scouting, work out the logistics in advance. It’s worth it to ensure everything goes smoothly.
- Time it for Golden Hour: This will help ensure that the photos are as gorgeous as possible! Talk to your photographer about the best timing.
- Take a Moment to Celebrate: After the proposal, soak in the moment together. Whether it’s a glass of champagne or a quiet walk, take time to enjoy the excitement before diving into celebrations with family and friends.
- Choose a Weekday: If you can help it! Most photographers are photographing weddings on the weekends, so it might be hard to find one available on a weekend!
