If you picture a classic Boston Wedding by the water, this one fits. Harbor views. City energy. A little rain. A lot of laughter. And fireworks that no one planned for but everyone loved.
Nicole and Alec’s wedding at the Boston Marriott Long Wharf had heart, humor, and just the right amount of chaos. The good kind. The kind that makes for real memories and even better photos.
For couples looking for a Boston Wedding Photographer, this day shows what can happen when you mix a strong love story, a bold sense of humor, and a waterfront venue right in the middle of the city.
How Nicole and Alec Met
Their first date was simple. They watched a Patriots game at Alec’s apartment. No grand plan. Just hanging out, talking, and cheering at the TV. It worked.
For date number two, they headed to the North End for dinner. That night stuck with them. The food. The walk through the narrow streets. The feeling that something real was starting. They later chose the North End for their engagement photos because so many early memories happened there. And they live there!
They have been together for five years and have been close ever since that first football night.
The Proposal in Portland, Maine
Last summer, they took a weekend trip to Portland, Maine. They spent the day walking around town and stopped at one of their favorite spots, Portland Head Light.
Nicole was taking in the ocean view when Alec got down on one knee. She did not expect it in that moment. She said yes without pause.
It was private, simple, and meaningful. That fits them well.
Why Boston Marriott Long Wharf Is a Great Wedding Venue
The Boston Marriott Long Wharf is a strong pick for a city wedding. It sits right on the harbor, steps from Christopher Columbus Park and close to the North End. You get water views and skyline views in one place.
For photos, the venue gives a lot of variety. There are balconies, indoor spaces with big windows, and easy access to the waterfront. You can walk to the park for classic Boston backdrops. Boats. Brick paths. Green lawns. Flowers. It all works.
This venue is also great for guests. Many hotels, restaurants, and sights are nearby. Out of town friends can turn the wedding into a weekend in Boston.
If you are planning a Boston Wedding, this spot should be on your list.
Getting Ready and the Giant Horse Lamp
The morning started with laughs. In the guys’ room, there was a giant horse lamp. Not a small one. Big enough for Alec to climb up and sit on it.
And, he did.
My second photographer, Maddie Bottasso, grabbed a group photo of the guys with the horse. It was one of those random moments that no one plans but everyone talks about later.
On the other side, Nicole was getting ready with the Boston Beauty Network Team. Hair and makeup looked clean and polished. She kept her style classic. Soft glam. Nothing too heavy.
Before she saw Alec, she did a first look with her dad on the balcony of her room. It was sweet and quiet. She gave him custom cuff links with a photo from her childhood. He got emotional right away. Those balcony photos are some of the most special from the morning.
A First Look Full of Tears and Laughter
Nicole and Alec chose to do a first look before the ceremony. They met on the balcony. Harbor in the background. Just the two of them.
They both cried. Between giggles and dress twirls.
They read private vows to each other. Those words stayed between them. The photos show how much it meant.
After they finished, they both took a nip of Dr. McGillicuddy’s. Actually 2, Nicole didn’t like the way she looked in the first photo because she made the classic disgusted face you take after taking a shot. So they did one more! It was their way of calming nerves and starting the day together.
First looks are helpful for timeline reasons, but they also allow couples to slow down. That quiet time often leads to the most honest photos of the day. And some of their only “alone time” together.
Bailey the Pup Joins the Party
No dog obsessed couple’s wedding is complete without their dog.
Their pup Bailey joined for portraits. She was part of it all. She posed. She looked around. She soaked up the attention. She’s just the cutest.
Bailey also made her way into the reception details. Their signature drink was an espresso martini with Bailey’s in it. OBVIOUSLY. The best part was the edible photo of Bailey’s face on the foam. Guests loved it.
They also had a cake topper of Bailey taking a bite out of the cake. It was funny and very on brand for them.
Pets add so much personality to a wedding day. If you can bring your dog for photos, do it. Even if just for a short time.
Classic Black and City Chic Style
Nicole and Alec kept their wedding party look clean and bold. Black dresses for the bridesmaids. Black suits for the groomsmen. It felt city chic and timeless.
Black works well in a Boston setting. With the harbor and brick paths nearby, the contrast looks sharp in photos.
We headed to Christopher Columbus Park for wedding party portraits. The steps and green space gave us strong lines and a classic Boston feel. The group looked polished but still relaxed.
Those park photos are some of the best ways to show off a Boston Wedding. You get a sense of place without needing long travel time.
A Jewish Ceremony with Meaning
Nicole and Alec had a Jewish ceremony. They signed the ketubah before the ceremony, surrounded by close family.
The ketubah signing is a special moment. It often feels calm before the larger event. Guests talk softly. Family members gather close. It gives a break from the busy timeline.
The ceremony itself was full of smiles. When Alec broke the glass, guests cheered loudly. The room felt warm and united.
A Little Rain and a Fried Dough Chase
It rained for the first ten minutes of cocktail hour. Just enough to cause mild stress. Not enough to ruin anything.
Once the rain slowed, we headed back outside for more portraits. The air felt fresh. The harbor looked calm.
While walking near the park, Nicole spotted a Daddy’s Fried Dough truck. The truck had written on the back: “Who’s ya Daddy?” In college, friends used to call her Daddy. Of course they posed in front of it laughing. But then as it drove off…
She ran toward the truck, dress in hand, laughing. Those photos are some of the most fun from the day. Spontaneous. Light. Real.
We also grabbed a funny group photo with a random set of tourists who wanted in on the action. They jumped right in. It felt very Boston.
Rain often scares couples. A short shower can actually add variety and clear the sky for better light later.
Reception Details with Personality
The reception space at the Boston Marriott Long Wharf looked beautiful. Clean lines. Soft light. A waterfront view.
The cake from The Icing On The Cake looked classic at first. Then the Bailey cake topper made everyone smile.
Nicole and Alec were playful during cake photos. They posed like goofballs and didn’t take themselves too seriously.
There were also Weiner bucket hats with hot dogs on them. Yes, really. Guests wore them on the dance floor. It was one of the funniest details of the night.
A Dance Floor That Did Not Slow Down
DJ Phat Matt kept the energy high all night. The dance floor stayed packed. People jumped. People sang along. No one held back.
Nicole and Alec matched the energy. They were fully in it. No stiff swaying in the corner. Just full joy. At one point Nicole’s bustle fell out and I gave her my hair tie to tie her dress up while dancing with her dad. She was no longer concerned about how she looked, time for fun!
Fireworks Over the Harbor
As if the night needed anything else, fireworks went off over the Boston harbor.
It was not planned by the couple. It just happened that night. The timing could not have been better. But of course every guest pretended they paid for it to happen.
Everyone ran outside cheering! Nicole and Alec were kissing and hugging and throwing their arms it the air. It was unforgettable!
Sometimes you get lucky.

A strong vendor team makes a wedding run well.

What This Boston Wedding Shows
Nicole and Alec’s day had it all. A heartfelt first look. Family tears. A giant horse lamp. Rain. Fried dough. Fireworks. Dog details. Bucket hats.
It proves that a wedding can be classy and silly at the same time.
If you are planning a Boston Wedding, think about what fits you. Keep traditions that matter. Add in jokes that feel personal. Do not worry if the day is not perfect. Rain comes and goes. Timelines shift. Funny moments pop up.
The goal is to enjoy it.
For couples looking for a Boston Wedding Photographer, focus on someone who captures both the big scenes and the small in between moments. The balcony first look. The shot of McGillicuddy’s. The laugh while chasing a fried dough truck. Those pieces tell the full story.
Nicole and Alec built their relationship on simple nights, shared meals, and close friends. Their wedding reflected that. It felt warm, open, and full of life.
Boston was the perfect backdrop. The harbor. The park. The city streets. Their home. All of it added depth without taking attention away from what mattered most.
Nicole and Alec, your wedding day had heart and humor from start to finish. And Boston showed up for you with fireworks to close it out.
